How would you like to become part of the success story of Narrowboat Farm? Would you like to benefit from the seasonal goodness that is Narrowboat Farm produce? Do you like the idea of becoming a small part of the farm and helping out occasionally? Or perhaps you’d simply like to support a local business committed to social and environmental benefits for the local community by committing to share in the risks and rewards of farming? If so, then membership is for you!

How Does It Work?
As a member, you commit to purchasing a weekly veg box from Narrowboat Farm during harvest season (June to October). Initially we are going to trial this for a limited number of members from Monday 26th August to September 16th 2019 (4 weeks). Your boxes will be prepared and ready for pickup on a Monday evening (there may be a degree of flexibility on this) from The Veg Shack in our car park. We ask an upfront payment of £40 to cover the cost of 4 veg boxes.

Community Supported Agriculture
This is an example of Community Supported Agriculture which means when the going is good, you’ll get a bumper harvest and when things are tough you’ll get less. Essentially you’re saying ‘we’re with you’ and respect the risks and rewards of farming in Scotland. You’re not simply getting a veg box each week, you’re supporting your local farm to the best job it can, and you may even be generous enough to be part of that and help out occasionally. We don’t require a labour commitment, but we hope to tempt you to get involved by making it as fun and rewarding as we can.

What Do You Get In Return For Membership?
Each week, you will get a box of the freshest, tastiest, environmentally-friendly veggies from Narrowboat Farm. In addition to this, we will be running a number of events and volunteering opportunities throughout the season. During the test run of this membership there will be the opportunity to take part in the following:

– Friday 30th August and September 6th: Farm Club – From 13:30 to 15:00 we will repeat the successful junior farm club we ran in the summer holidays. This is the opportunity for primary school age pupils to join in with the farm fun and work on the mini farm which we established in the summer.
– Saturday 7th September: The Veg Boat – For the first time in probably 150 years we will be loading a historic barge with produce from Narrowboat Farm and sailing into Linlithgow to set up a stall and sell produce. Details to follow, numbers will be strictly limited for this and we will offer this opportunity to the first memberships sold.
– Saturday September 21st: BBQ/Bonfire – As a thankyou for your support, you’ll be invited to our annual end of summer BBQ/bonfire at NBF to celebrate a successful season coming towards an end as summer slips away.

What Can I Expect in the Veg Boxes?
The nature of seasonal produce means this will change with the weather. But looking forward for the next month or so, we’d envisage a mixture of the following… tomatoes, cucumbers, chillies, carrots, broccoli, cabbage, courgettes, peas, beans, beetroot, squash, kale, chard, salads and more
